#4 "Hey Rod.....

“Hey Rod......we've got yeast and we made some flour out of oats, but we're running really low on syrup for our pancakes and waffles. We don't have any maple tree's to tap into or we'd try that. Any thoughts?”

“Well if you have sugar, you could make a simple syrup. Add equal amounts of sugar and water in a sauce pan, bring to a boil, stirring lots so that the sugar doesn't burn. For a more flavorful syrup, try 2 cups of brown sugar, 1 cup of water and bring this to a boil, again, stirring to really dissolve the sugar and keep it from burning. Gently boil for 4 min., then add ½ cup of butter and keep stirring until butter is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and add ¼ teaspoon of either vanilla or maple extract for extra flavor. Let it cool and pour into a jar with a lid for storage. This should last about a month if kept cool in the fridge. Or.....you could go tap into a birch tree, but this is soooo much easier.”
