Back Packing

Back packs can be used for so many things. I like to keep a backpack just for a bug out bag. I keep stuff in there that I would need for at least 72 hours (actually, more like 144 hours). It doesn't matter if you're going for a day trip or for a long week-end, a good back pack will carry everything you'll need to take with you.

As usual, we take the top ratings from Amazon that have at least 100 customer reviews. The best rating you can achieve from here is a 5, so when you see something with a 4.8 with hundreds of reviews, you're pretty assured that one product is customer approved.

Some of the military style back packs have the MOLLE packs (modular lightweight load-carrying equipment) and PALS. PALS is the webbing and MOLLE is the attachment. If you have PALS, you can attach Molle attachment to it. It just allows you to be able to add extra components to your pack, providing you can carry the extra weight. We looked at the medium size back pack, around 40 liters in carrying space.

I must remind people that water resistant and water proof are two different things. Anything water resistant will still get wet in a downpour or dropped in the water. If you want water proof, then you will need a water proof cover to go over your back pack, & this is true of most back packs. As always, do your due diligent.

Osprey Packs Farpoint 40

Osprey4.8.jpg

The Osprey Back Pack got a 4.8 rating out of over 2,800 reviews. You can find this back pack on Amazon following this link: https://amzn.to/3Dyrp4F

This is a 40 liter back pack and with the meshed back-panel, this improves ventilation and the mesh on the harness and hip-belt reduces chafing when travelling under load.

The Osprey Farpoint is perfect as a carry on if you're flying, as the packing straps can be zippered up with a rear protective cover, along with padded handles on the side. This makes it look more like a duffel bag than a back pack.

All the Osprey backpacks had really good reviews, this is just one of many models available.
