"The other thing I'd keep in mind is bartering. Now this doesn't have to be material things, it can be your labor or if you have a trade or skill set, you can trade your expertise for something that you need. Items that people will always run out of are the things that get used on a daily basis. I, for one, will not stock up on cigarettes, alcohol or recreational drugs. But that is certainly something to keep in mind if you have the resources and don't mind dealing with the public on a daily. I'd be more inclined to stock up on items my family will use and barter more with knowledge, experience and items that I can craft by hand (or in a boat). Regardless, the more you have to barter with, the better."
