“Hey Rod.....if I'm out in the bush and lose my knife, what should I use?”

“The best thing to use is rock. Depending where you are and the type of rocks that are around you, if you can find a rock about 6 to 7 inches long (15 to 18 cm) fairly flat and is breakable, you should be able to fashion yourself a workable knife. Using other rocks, you would start chipping away (called flint knapping) small pieces off of your rock until you got the shape and size that would work for you. You may have to go through a few rocks before you get something that is really usable. Here again, you may have to use a solid stick to dig up a rock, if you do, watch for worms, you'll need them to help you catch that fish for supper.”
